Suggested HillBilly Hiking 11+1 Activities

  1. Find a quiet spot on your walk and do some simple stretches or yoga posses.
  2. Discover the joy of watching birds. How do they interact with their environment? What do they sound like? Imagine you are a soaring bird.
  3. Adopt a special tree. Feel the texture of the bark, touch and smell the leaves. Sit under it and feel the calming, loving energy that it emits. Adopt a ditch tree and transplant it in a better spot where you could come and visit it often.
  4. Spread a blanket on the ground and watch the clouds float by. Find shapes and stories in the clouds. Research about the many different types of clouds that fill the sky (stratus, cirrus, nimbus).
  5. Record your experience through journaling, or draw your experiences or insights, take some creative pictures.
  6. Play follow the leader and I spy.
  7. Find a quiet place, then sit down, use your senses to focus on the nature around you. What can you hear, see, smell, touch (taste)?
  8. Try some meditative BOX BREATHING

          *Breathe out slowly, releasing all the air from your lungs.

          *Breathe in through your nose as you slowly count to four in your head. Be conscious of how the air fills your lungs and 

            stomach. 

         * Hold your breath for a count of four.

         *Exhale for another count of four.

         *Hold your breath again for a count of four.

         *Repeat for 3 or 4 rounds or as much as desired.

  1. Watch The Ants in the ant hill (poke it to create activity). How do the ants run their “home/business”?
  2. Create a walking stick with different items you find in the forest, like broken branches, vines. 
  3. Make a bonfire in one of the firepits. Drag deadfall out of the bushes.

+ 1.   Build a fort in the bushes using branches and fallen trees. Watch out for Poison Ivy!!!!
